The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m. by Debra Hammer.
The minutes from October 2, 2003 were reviewed and accepted.
Social and Youth Services:
Jane Johnson from youth and social services joined us and discussed the possibility of a skate park in Wethersfield. The park would not be staffed or restricted to anyone, and would hopefully control public destruction and harassment of the elderly. Jane has started a petition with signatures of the known skateboarders that are interested.
Perhaps the board will support the park financially down the road. The board has agreed to write a letter supporting a non-lit skate-park. Debra Hammer will write the draft.
Stuff a bus was successful.
The crop walk was unsuccessful, due to poor promotion.
The ROPE program is wrapping up for this year.
Youth Advisory Board:
The board is looking to fill vacancies. Civilians are in high demand as well as a middle school member (Steve Cook has been asked to recruit someone from Silas Deane.)
Future Projects:
Under age drinking task force - Mike Seaver is the drug and alcohol counselor at the high school and there is the question of paying him to put together something more formal in the future.
Rake Day - Community service opportunity possibly for kids to help seniors rake. There will be lunch provided.
Tri-town YMCA is in the early stages of developing a teen center in Wethersfield, the board may seek interest in becoming involved in the future.
Meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
