Wethersfield Youth Advisory Board Meeting
December 4, 2003
Members in Attendance: Maria A. Calleri, Paul Clemens, Sharon DiGioia-Daskal, Steve Dowdy, Debra Hammer, James Milne, Barbara Ruhe, Nancy Stilwell, Heather Zottola.
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Debra Hammer.
The minutes from November 6, 2003 were reviewed and accepted.
Youth Advisory Board:
- Next meeting will be January 8th due to the New Year holiday.
- We have a need for more board members.
- Paul Clemens suggested that Nancy Stilwell and Debra Hammer make a YAB presentation at a PTSA meeting.
- Will idea has to be open to all law firms in town. Letter will be sent out to all law firms letting them become a part of the project. They will be included in a brochure and will donate money to the YAB.
Department of Youth Services Update:
- Successful food drive for Thanksgiving
- In about a year the Department of Youth Services will be moving into their new space.
- Shadow program will be starting
- Volunteer Recognition Night 2004 tentatively scheduled for the week of April 12th. Possibly April 14th.
Underage Drinking Taskforce:
Police chief is interested in ordinance to go into private homes when underage drinking is suspected.
Other Business:
- Skateboard park will be for daytime use only. Kids in town have been very vocal and interested in the park. Youth services donated $1,000 to kick off fundraising. ESPN will run a two minute segment about our proposed skate park.
- Corpus Christi Church is having Homefront Day on May 1st for people in need of home repairs.
- Paul Clemens reports that 16 Wethersfield High School students participated in Habitat for Humanity. Saturday, Dec. 13 will be another Habitat project. Also, ninth graders met with eighth graders to help with the transition to high school.
- Budget remains the same at $1600.
