Town of Wethersfield Committee on Culture and the Arts
Minutes of the December 8, 2003 Meeting
Members Present: Joan Biagioni, Jeanne Ciotto, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Anne Eisenman, Heidi Lane, Sandra Mulcahy, Francis Patti, Ruth Schumaker and Pat Viani.
The meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m.
Treasurer's Report:
- There is $500 in the account for the scholarship award. Heidi Lane volunteered to be the Scholarship Chairman. She will contact Karl Kumme at the high school for the name of a recipient.
- $3,000 is in the general fund.
- Approximately $5,000 is in the escrow account.
New Business:
- New members of the committee were introduced and welcomed aboard.
- Pat Viani was contacted by some local groups. We listened to CDs by "No Shame Band" and "Unprepared." A motion was made to hire "No Shame Band." It was seconded. Motion carried.
- Tony Allen also contacted Pat and indicated he was interested in performing for us. Jeanne Ciotto will contact the Parks and Recreation Department for a donation so we could have Tony Allen perform at the Webb Bar or some other location.
- Pat received the Prism Marketing Presentation from Barbara Belmont. She will notify Barbara that we are interested in "The British Beat", "E Cacique" and "Up Town Swing Band". A motion was made and seconded to accept these three groups. Motion carried.
- Joan Biagioni brought up the idea that perhaps we could get some sponsors for the concerts since we have such a limited budget this year.
- The Parks and Recreation Department requested copies of the minutes which will be e-mailed to Thomas Hemphill.
Old Business:
- The 94 Army Band will perform on August 15, 2004. The concerts will be held on the Tuesdays in July at the Cove.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 12, 2004 in the Town Manager's Conference room.
