Town of Wethersfield Committee on Culture and the Arts
Minutes of the January 12, 2004 Meeting
Members Present: Joan Biagioni, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Karen Gove, Heidi Lane, Sandra Mulcahy, Frances Patti, Ruth Schumaker and Patricia Viani
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.
Treasurer's Report:
- There was $3,000 in the account to start. After paying White Publishing Co., there is a balance of $2,802.
- Escrow Account balance: $3,627.70.
- Scholarship Fund: $530. This fund is from donations made at the summer concerts. Heidi Lane has put a call into Karl Kumme at the High School for the name of a recipient.
New Business:
- Discussion regarding sponsors for the concerts: Mary-Beth Dobmeier will contact The Connecticut River Bank; Heidi Lane will contact Bank North. It was pointed out that West Hartford and Manchester have sponsors for the concerts.
- Pat Viani was in contact with Barbara Belmont from Prism Marketing. The total amount for her contract is $2,200 for three groups. A motion was made by Joan Biagioni to accept the contract. It was seconded by Fran Patti. Motion carried. Pat will sign and send the contract.
- "No Shame Band" would like between $350 and $400 for their performance. A motion was made by Fran Patti to pay $400. Motion seconded by Joan Biagioni. Motion carried.
- The total for the bands comes to $2,600. Tony Allen charges $500 for his concerts. At this time we do not have the funding to cover his concert. If we obtain sponsorships, then we could have him perform.
- Concert schedule:
- July 6: No Shame Band
- July 13: British Beat
- July 20: El Cacique
- July 27: Alibi
- The swing band "Up Town Swing Band" wanted $1,000 so in their place "Alibi" will perform. A motion was made by Fran Patti to accept these bands. Seconded by Joan Biagoni. Motion carried.
- Pat Viani received a resignation letter from Lauren Day. Rita Doyle read the letter to the committee. Rita will notify Dolores Sassano, Town Clerk, regarding the resignation.
- Heidi Lane said she had spoken to John Cascio who said that Donna Schwartz has resigned. Rita will ask Dolores if she has been notified of this.
Old Business:
- All concerts will take place at the Wethersfield Cove with the use of the show mobile. The concerts take place between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
- The 94th Army Band will perform on August 15, 2004. They will set up at 12:00 noon. Karen Gove will contact the High School for use of its facility in case of rain. She will also contact the Community Center for rain dates for the July concerts.
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the Employees Lounge at Town Hall.
