Town of Wethersfield Committee on Culture and the Arts
Minutes of the June 14, 2004 Meeting
Members Present: Joan Biagoni, Jeanne Ciotto, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Anne Eisenman, Karen Gove, Heidi Lane, Sandra Mulcahy, Francis Patti, Ruth Ann Schumaker and Patricia Viani.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Before the meeting, we met Sabrina Mollica, recipient of our $500 scholarship. She will be attending Hofstra University.
A motion was made by Pat Viani to accept the minutes of May 12, 2004. Seconded by Fran Patti.
Treasurer's Report:
- Sandy reported that we have $6,327.70 in our Escrow Account. Sandy sent a check in the amount of $2,200 to Archie D'Amato Associates and a check in the amount of $400 to Angelo Arcaria (No Shame Band).
- Ruth Ann submitted bills for publicity: $198 for the ad in Wethersfield Life, $13.70 for printing of posters, $7.40 for postage and $ll.30 for folders and miscellaneous items. These bills will be paid out of the General Fund. There is -$28.48 in the General Fund.
- A check will be made out to Hofstra University in the amount of $500 for Sabrina Mollica. There will be a balance of $30.09 in the Scholarship Fund Account.
- We will all meet at the showmobile before the performances to obtain buckets which will be passed around during intermission for donations to the scholarship fund.
Publicity Committee:
- Ruth Ann passed around the posters and flyers to committee members to be distributed to various locations throughout town: businesses, restaurants, grocery stores, housing complexes, the Community Center, etc.
- An ad will appear in the July issue of Wethersfield Life. Ruth Ann also contacted the Rare Reminder. Anne reported that the concerts have been advertised on the public access scroller.
- Jeanne has contacted the Hartford Courant. The Courant requested that two weeks before each concert, they be contacted for the name of the band performing on that particular Tuesday. They will publish the concerts individually each week.
New Business:
- Pat picked up the banner from Karen Nichols at the Connecticut River Bank which will be prominently displayed on the showmobile.
- Dick Santi contacted Pat regarding his swing band. His fee is $1,000. This may be a possibility for next summer's concert series. His band will be performing at the Keeney Center on August 3.
- Pat will not be here on August 15 when the 94th Army Band will perform. Joan volunteered to be the contact person for the event.
Old Business:
- Heidi spoke to Scott Olsen regarding the Glamour Girls' performance at the Community Center on October 16, 2004. If they use a CD, the fee will be approximately $750. The sound is about the same as if they used a band. Karen will check on the custodial fee for the Community Center. The cabaret night will run from 7:00 p.m. to l0:00 p.m.
- A motion was made by Pat that we have a cabaret night on October 16, 2004. Motion seconded.
Pat thanked Ruth Ann for hosting the meeting and also thanked everyone who brought goodies.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held on September 13, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the Employees Lounge at Town Hall.
