Town of Wethersfield Conservation Commission
February 9, 2005

Chairman Andy Wizner called the meeting to at 8:00 PM in the Town Hall Conference Room. The meeting was attended by Commissioners Tracy Gionfriddo, Jim Schumaker, Rebecca Zaliznock, Ingrid Boelhouwer, Christoph Geiss, Peter Gardow, and Robert Pulford. Chris Shepard of the Nature Center sat in on behalf of Kathy Bagley of the Parks and Recreation Department; and Matt Forrest of the Town Council was also in attendance.

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
    The January 12, 2005 Minutes were approved, with spelling corrections (Motion by I. Boehouwer, Seconded by T. Gionfriddo).
  2. COMMUNICATIONS
    None
  3. OLD AND NEW BUSINESS
    Matt Forrest:
    • Wethersfield Cove discussion regarding the MDC "Long Term CSO Control Plan", which was summarized by T. Gionfriddo for the Conservation Commission members. A public hearing is scheduled for February 15th for public comment to the Plan. The Long Term Control Plan is for a one year flow event only and that any overflow greater than that will be discharged to the Cove. The Town is seeking an 18-year capacity plan.
    • Budget discussion regarding Open Space allocation funds. The Conservation Commission should contact the Town Manager and request that funds be added to the Town budget. C. Shepard mentioned that $1,200 for the Commission budget is part of the Parks and Recreation Department operating budget.
    Open Space:
    • A. Wizner has not yet received a response from the Town Manager regarding Open Space questions.
    • The Open Space Inventory Sub-committee (T. Gionfriddo, C. Geiss, P. Gardow, R. Pulford) met with Bill Holler of the Town GIS Data Processing Department to discuss digitizing the Open Space Inventory onto the Town maps and database. C. Geiss gave a computer demonstration and discussed the potential for creating an Open Space database.
    Heritage Way Reports:
    • A. Wizner will write a letter to Peter Hall, President of the Civitan Club to request sponsorship for roadway signs in the Meadows.
    • T. Gionfriddo contacted DEP regarding the status of payment for the Grant awarded for the completion of Phase II of the Heritage Way trail system.
    CL&P Properties:
    • A. Wizner has not received a response from the Town Manager regarding the status of these properties. The Commission will discuss at the next scheduled meeting.

A. Wizner adjourned the meeting at 8:55 PM (Motion by P. Gardow, Seconded by T. Gionfriddo).
