TOWN OF WETHRSFIELD COMMITTEE ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS
MINUTES OF THE JUNE 13, 2005 MEETING
Members present: Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, Heidi Lane, Sandra Mulcahy, Frances Patti, Ruth Ann Schumaker and Patricia Viani.
Before the meeting, we met one of the scholarship recipients, Mary-Beth Mulready, and her parents. Mary-Beth is interested in musical performance and special education with the possibility of combining the two. The other recipient, Natalie Pittman, was not able to attend. She is interested in visual arts.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Pat thanked Ruth Ann for hosting the meeting and everyone who brought goodies.
A motion was made by Liz to accept the minutes of May 9, 2005 with the correction that Heidi Lane was in attendance. Motion seconded by Ruth Ann.
Treasurer's Report:
- Sandy reported that we have $1,359 available for scholarships. She will make out two checks in the amount of $500 each for the two scholarship recipients. We will have a balance of $359 towards next year's scholarship.
- There is $9,647.10 in the escrow account. Sandy will prepare checks in the amounts of $600 for Moxie, $500 for Tony and $1,200 for Vincent Roccaro for a total of $2,300. Members responsible for specific concerts will deliver checks.
New Business:
- Pat received a letter from the Wethersfield Tourism Commission requesting information regarding the summer concert series. Rita will send her the schedule. The Manchester Bicentennial Band Shell schedule was passed around.
- Rita will send a letter to Karen Gove accepting her resignation and thanking her for her participation in our committee.
- Pat reported that the contact person at the Wethersfield Health Care Center is Matt Catalano. His phone is 257-6116. The contact person at the Parks and Recreation Department is Kathy Bagley at 271-2890. In case of inclement weather, they have to be contacted by the person in charge of the concert that night for the change in location.
Publicity:
- Ruth Ann passed around the large posters to be distributed throughout town. She also passed around the small leaflets to be placed in various businesses so the public can take one. Committee members should distribute these around June 28.
- Ruth Ann will contact Jeanne regarding publicity in the Hartford Courant.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. The next meeting is September 13, 7:00 p.m. at Pat's home, 72 Sunrise Terrace.
