TOWN OF WETHERSFIELD COMMITTEE ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS
MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 17, 2005 MEETING
Members present: Jeanne Ciotto, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Liz Kirkpatrick, Ruth Ann Schumaker and Pat Viani.
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. A motion was made to accept the minutes of September 13. Seconded by Liz.
Treasurer's Report:
- In the absence of Sandy, Pat reported that two $500 checks were made to the two scholarship recipients. There was an outstanding custodial bill from the August 5, 2004 Army Band at the high school in the amount of $530.00.
- There is $354.00 left over from donations towards the scholarship fund. The money collected at the July concerts: $186--94th Army Band concert; $163.00---Moxie; $91.00--Vincent Roccaro. The total scholarship money available is $794.00.
- Expenditures: $100 final payment to Moxie, $178.53 in custodial fees for Glamour Girls; $14.35 to Ruth Ann for publicity; $20.28 to Sandy for office supplies and $14.80 in postage.
- There is $1000 in the General Fund. There was a balance of $6,741.10 in the escrow account, but we have to subtract $794.00 for scholarships which leaves a present balance of $5,947.10.
New Business:
- Pat is supposed to receive a memo from Kathy Bagley regarding a joint venture to put on a children's program with the towns of Rocky Hill, Newington and Berlin. This is something the committee should consider. Jeanne volunteered to sit on an arts committee meeting in another town.
- Pat received the minutes from the Wethersfield Tourism Commission which was passed around. Rita will notify Peter Gillespie that the minutes can be placed in a WCCA mail box at Town Hall.
- Ruth Ann agreed to contact Karl Kumme at the high school in January/February for the name of a scholarship recipient.
- We are going to have to look for a new meeting room for the 2006 meetings. Rita will make some inquires for a room at the Community Center, Police Department or the Stillman Building.
Old Business:
- At the September meeting we discussed the fact that attendance is down at the summer concerts. Perhaps we should do a cabaret in the winter or sponsor some other event.
- Since we have four vacancies, members should ask anyone they know who might be interested in joining our committee. Liz brought up the fact that the description in the Town Charter doesn't really specify what the committee's purpose is. Maybe it should be rewritten.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. In the absence of Pat, Jeanne volunteered to chair the November 14 meeting which will be held in the Library Conference Room at 7:00 p.m. Please call Jeanne at 563-7973 if you cannot attend the meeting. The December 12 meeting will be held at Elaine's Restaurant on the Berlin Turnpike.
Meeting dates for 2006: January 9, February 13, March 13, April 10, May 8 and June 12.
Respectfully submitted,
Rita T. Doyle
Secretary
