TOWN OF WETHERSFIELD COMMITTEE ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS
MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 14, 2005 MEETING
Members present: Jeanne Ciotto, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Liz Kirkpatrick and Ruth Ann Schumaker
In the absence of Pat, Jeanne called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. A motion was made to accept the minutes of October 17. Seconded by Mary-Beth. Mary-Beth questioned the fact that the money collected at the Tony Allen concert was not included in the Treasurer's Report. Rita will contact Sandy for the amount.
Treasurer's Report:
New Business:
- Liz passed around a copy of the ordinance that established the committee, adopted by the Town Council on 6/17/74. The question was raised--what is the Town Council's expectation of our committee.
- Jeanne contacted the Parks & Recreation Department in Rocky Hill and they do not have a similar committee. She also contacted Newington's Park and Recreation which does have a similar committee. She will be talking to the person in charge in the near future.
- Discussion ensued regarding the activities the committee should undertake. Maybe the committee should be integrated with another town commission or we should coordinate activities with neighboring towns. The question was raised if something like this was done, what will happen to our scholarship fund. No action was taken at this time.
- The meetings in 2006 will be held at the Community Center, Room S-2 (Jan 9, Feb. 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8).
Old Business:
- Pat spoke to Kathy Bagley (Parks & Rec.) and discussed participating in and/or sponsoring a Children's Theater Group with the Town of Newington. Kathy will send us something in writing.
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Our next meeting will be our Christmas party to be held on December 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Elaine's Restaurant on the Berlin Turnpike. Please let Pat know if you cannot attend. Hope to see all of you there.
