Maurice McCarthy described a proposal to replace an existing brick sign at the Charles Wright School with a new wooden sign because the existing sign is damaged. Andrea Boyle asked Mr. McCarthy why the brick foundation was not being replaced. Mr. McCarthy indicated that the proposed design is more in line with other town signs and the cost fell within the budget allotted. Jay Hallinan commented that the proposed sign will help eliminate excessive sign clutter as several of the visitor parking signs will be removed. Bruce Bockstael noted that all town signage should be consistent and any further signage should be adopted town wide. Mr. McCarthy commented that at this point no uniform design has been deemed the town standard. Andrea Boyle asked what color lettering is proposed. Mr. McCarthy noted that the letters will be black. Margaret Albert, PTO member, voiced her recommended approval to the DRAC. Joe Hickey made a motion to approve the sign proposal as submitted. Steve Hine seconded the motion and all voted in favor.
Darcie Roy described a proposal to reface an existing 4' by 6'-3.75" (25 s. f.) freestanding sign. She noted that the existing sign has stencil cut illuminated letters. The proposed sign would utilize the existing posts and would be comprised of a painted aluminum body with stencil cut push through letters and internally illuminated. A discussion ensued regarding the lettering and whether it would look better centered or with a watermark. The DRAC asked for additional information with regarding to the composition of the sign roof and to view other possible design options.
