MINUTES (APPROVED)
November 1, 2006
Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center, Wethersfield, CT

In attendance: William Holden, Cindy Jacobs, Virginia Judson, and Judy Parker. Also in attendance: Maurice McCarthy, Jr., Christopher Shepard, and Mike Turner.

Absent: Paul Lombardo.

Ginny called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.

Report: Maurice McCarthy, Jr., Maintenance & Operations Supervisor for the Wethersfield Public Schools, and Mike Turner, Director of Engineering & Physical Services for the Town of Wethersfield, provided an overview of current electricity use and improvement efforts.

• Schools and recently renovated buildings have included energy conservation measures in consultation with CL&P, e.g. motion sensors for lights, motors replaced, etc. The schools in particular participate in a "user" education and compliance program in which staff members help monitor the facilities.
• A few buildings use so little energy (e.g. fire houses) or are under consideration for sale so that no conservation measures have been pursued.
• A few buildings have not yet been examined (Standish and Old Academy), and some buildings are slated for renovation in the future (High School partially and Hamner School totally around 2009).
• In some cases conservation measures might be available but not recommended at this time. E.g. the high school's boilers are only half way through their anticipated life spans, so it's not economical to replace them yet.

Motion: Ask Bill Leahy at ECSU's Institute for Sustainable Energy to conduct a benchmark analysis on the Town's electricity use. Unanimously approved. Cindy will contact him.

Report: Christopher confirmed that the memorandum of understanding to participate with the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund participate in the Community Innovations Grant Program has been signed by the Town Manager and submitted.

Report: Will clarified that the campaign's goal is 20% of the electricity used in 2010 will be clean energy, not an amount in 2010 equivalent to 20% of the electricity used today.

Motion: Accept 10/11/06 minutes as edited. Unanimously approved.
