TOWN OF WETHERS FIELD CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Minutes of the February 8, 2006 Meeting

Commissioner Christoph Geiss called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM in the Town Hall Conference Room. The meeting was attended by Commissioners Ingrid Boelhouwer, Gene Grayson, Robert Pulford, Rebecca Zaliznock, Royce Vehslage, Tracy Gionfriddo, and Ralph Moyer. Also in attendance was Chris Shepard (on behalf of Kathy Bagley, Staff Liaison) and Matthew Forrest of the Town Council.

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

    The January 11, 2006 Minutes were approved (Motion by R. Moyer, Seconded by I. Boelhouwer).

  2. COMMUNICATIONS

    I. Boelhouwer a Connecticut Light & Power Company Bulletin on Clean Energy Options for programs to support renewable energy produced by natural means.

  3. OLD AND NEW BUSINESS

    Matthew Forrest Report:

    Mr. Forrest mentioned that the Town received $81,000.000 for the recent sale of the Olson House on Marsh Street. All of this money is to be added to the Land Acquisition fund.

    Heritage Way Recreational Trail Report:

    Ingrid Boelhouwer mentioned that a site meeting is scheduled for Saturday February 11 at 9:30 am in the Meadows to meet with Town Engineer Mike Turner to discuss the placement and locations of signs for the Heritage Way Trail system.

    Robert Pulford contacted local news publications (Wethersfield Life and the Wethersfield Post) regarding the posting of information announcing the June 3rd Trail Days celebration in the Great Meadows with Rocky Hill.

    Farmland Preservation Report:

    Gene Grayson attended the Appalachian Mountain Club meeting regarding issues of concern by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters Education Fund. Public Act 228 assures funds received from the property transfer fees (collected by individual municipalities) are to be available to fund various programs, including the Farmland Preservation Program. The attached page from the Connecticut Environmental Briefing Book (2005-2006) provides web site information related to farmland preservation.

    Open Space Inventory Update:

    C. Geiss mentioned that the GIS / GPS mapping project of the open space is completed and he will print and publish CDs to be sent to the Town Manager for distribution to the Town Planner, Town Engineer, Inland Wetlands and Water Courses Commission, and the Planning and Zoning Commission, and any other interested parties.

Commissioner Geiss adjourned the meeting at 8:25 PM (Motion by T. Gionfriddo, Seconded by G. Grayson).
