Committee on Culture and the Arts Meeting Minutes

TOWN OF WETHERSFIELD COMMITTEE ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS
MINUTES OF MAY 8, 2006

Members present: Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Dawn Silver, Ruth Ann Schumaker and Pat Viani.

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. Pat welcomed our newly appointed member, Dawn Richardson Silver.

Pat thanked Mary-Beth for doing the minutes for the April 10th meeting. Mary-Beth stated she inadvertently left out Liz Kirkpatrick as being present. Pat suggested that the Treasurer's Report be highlighted and not part of New Business. The check for The Chicklets (Vin Roccaro) was for $1,500. There is $4,76l.41 in the Escrow Account. When there is a report regarding Publicity and Scholarship, it should be highlighted. Pat made a motion to accept minutes of 4/10/06 with corrections. Ruth Ann seconded the motion.

Treasurer's Report:

In the absence of Sandy, Pat reiterated that there is $4,76l.4l available for future events.
In the event that we want to charge a fee for future performances, Pat will have to speak to Kathy Bagley. This may have to be brought before the Town Council.

New Business:

Pat received a call from Tony Allen who was interested in doing a concert. She informed him that we will not be doing summer concerts this year, but will keep him in mind for 2007.
Minutes from the Wethersfield Tourism Committee were passed around for members to peruse.

Scholarship:

In the absence of Jeanne, Rita reported that Jeanne received a letter from Karl Kumme endorsing Christina Copobianco as the recipient of our $500 scholarship. Chrissy is a senior who will be attending Wagner College, majoring in Theatre Design and Management.
A letter will be sent to Chrissy inviting her to our June 5 meeting.

Publicity:

Ruth Ann passed around flyers for the May 20th cabaret to be distributed throughout town. Dawn said she will make sure all the schools receive flyers.
Pat contacted Nancy Thompson at Connecticut Life to have a notice put in their newspaper. She will contact Liz about putting something in Wethersfield Life.
Pat asked Ruth Ann to contact Channel 14 to see if they would be able to film the cabaret.
Rita mentioned that there was a notice in the Corpus Christi bulletin this past weekend. Pat will contact Incarnation Church to see if they would do the same.

Old Business:

Pat has reserved Room F-1 for the performers to change the night of the cabaret. She will bring ice buckets. Dawn will help collect the $5.00 donation at the door. We need another volunteer.
