TOWN OF WETHERSFIELD COMMITTEE ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS
MINUTES OF JANUARY 8, 2007
Members present: Jeanne Ciotto, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Liz Kirkpatrick, Sandy Mulcahy, Frances Patti, Dawn Richardson Silver and Pat Viani.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Pat welcomed everyone and wished Happy New Year to all. Pat asked if there were any additions or deletions to the minutes of the November 13, 2006 meeting. A motion was made to accept the minutes. Seconded by Fran.
Treasurer's Report:
- Sandy reported no new activity.
New Business:
- Mail: Pat received 2 pamphlets from the Knights of Columbus: One pamphlet described the Vatican Christmas that is being performed and the other described the performance by the Swiss Guard Swing Time quartet.
The Alleluia Players started with Father Gengras. They have been involved with Special Olympics, and have performed at Carnegie Hall and in Washington, D.C. They performed 7 concerts for Christmas. Contact person is Norman Hanenbaum, Box 165, Haddam, CT.
- Discussion ensured regarding the possibility of sponsoring a cabaret in March. We decided that Friday, March 9th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. would be a good time and date for a cabaret. The Alleluia Players do not charge for their concerts. A motion was made to have the Alleluia Players perform and to donate $300 to them. The group is made up of mentally and physically challenged musicians.
- Pat received a call from Dolores Sassano who requested a schedule of meeting dates. The June 11 meeting will be held at Ruth Ann's house.
Received an invitation from the Wethersfield Historical Society breakfast reception which will be held on January 31st and February 2nd from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Keeney Cultural Center.
Publicity Committee:
- Ruth Ann and Dawn will prepare posters to distribute throughout town for the March 9th cabaret. Suggested donation would be $5.00 and up. February 2nd is the deadline for Wethersfield Life.
Scholarship:
- Jeanne will contact Karl Kumme in February.
Old Business:
- Pat called Kyle Mosley (contact person) at the Wethersfield Health Center regarding sponsorship of our concerts. She has not heard back from him.
- Kathy Bagley is to get back to Pat regarding the Children's Theater group which will perform on March 31st.
- We listened to two CD's--Ben Altman (Jazz) The Damien Pacheco Quartet. We also listened to The Spectacles again.
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. The next meeting is February 12 at the Community Center.
Respectfully submitted,
Rita Doyle
