TOWN OF WETHERSFIELD COMMITTEE ON CULTURE AND ARTS
MINUTES OF JUNE 11, 2007 MEETING
Members present: Jeanne Ciotto, Mary-Beth Dobmeier, Rita Doyle, Sandy Mulcahy, Frances Patti, Ruth Ann Schumaker, Ellen Spratlin and Pat Viani.
Before the meeting began, we met our scholarship recipient, Gretchen Wagner, and her mother. Gretchen will be attending Savannah College of Arts and Design in the fall, majoring in fashion design. She was awarded a $500 scholarship.
The meeting was called to order at 8:25 p.m. Pat thanked Ruth Ann for hosting the meeting. Fran made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 14, 2007 meeting. Seconded by Jeanne.
Treasurer's Report:
- * There is $652 in our General Fund. A check for $652 will be sent to Ben Altman as a deposit for his October 7, 2007 performance.
- * There is $6,257.04 in the Escrow Account. There will be $464 left in our scholarship fund after the $500 award is drawn.
New Business:
- * Pat received a call from Tony Allen. He will perform on May 16, 2008 at the Community Center. Discussion ensued as to whether we should do this as an "Italian Music Night" inviting the surrounding UNICO chapters. We all agreed that this would be an excellent idea. Pat will contact Jocelyn to book the evening.
- * Pat spoke to Jeanne Kelly, President of the Chamber of Commerce, regarding a donation. She asked that we resubmit our March 3, 2007 letter.
- * Pat spoke to Gloria McLean regarding our volunteering for the opening of the Silas Robbins House. It was agreed that we would help out on the evening of October 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Mail:
- * Pat received a letter from the Town Manager, Bonnie L. Therrien, dated May 22nd, wherein the Town allocated $1,000 in the budget for our committee.
Old Business:
- * Jeanne sent an e-mail to Scott Haney at WSFB regarding his program, "Hometown Heroes" suggesting that Norm Hanenbaum be considered. She will send him more particulars.
- * Jeanne spoke to Dr. Savanelli who is a member of a barber shop quartet. He expressed an interest in performing for us.
- * Ellen has a contract from Ben Altman. His fee is $1000 and he will perform from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on October 7th. She will be in contact with Kathy Bagley to ask if the Town could supply some chairs. In the publicity for the event it will be stated that people should bring chairs, blankets and snacks.
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m. Please note that the next meeting will be held on September 17th at Pat's home. It was originally scheduled for September 10th.
