Volunteers Sought for Energy Conservation Committee

The Town of Wethersfield is looking for volunteers to be members of the newly re-formed Citizens Energy Conservation Advisory Committee. This Committee will study and make recommendations to the Town Council concerning matters of energy, conservation, and other projects as the Town Manager or Town Council directs. The Citizens Energy Conservation Advisory Committee will be made up of seven members appointed by the Town Manager, who are interested in being part of the Town's energy conservation initiative.

Winter Curb Damage Repair Request Deadline

The town Physical Services Division advises that requests for repairs of curbs damaged this winter will be accepted through this Memorial Day, May 26, 2008. Any requests that come in after that date cannot be guaranteed for repair this spring.

Children's Art Workshop at Nature Center

The Wethersfield Academy for the Arts and Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center will be offering a "Baby Animals" art workshop for children aged 7 to 10, accompanied by a parent. Anne Sheffield will lead the group in creating baby animal art using printing, collage and other techniques. The workshop will take place Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Eleanor Buck Nature Center, 156 Prospect Street. Cost is $15 a parent/child couple for Nature Center members, $20 for non-members. For further information contact the Academy for the Arts at 563-4191 or the Nature Center at 529-3075.

Curbside Metal Recycling May 12

In support of Earth Day, the Town of Wethersfield has scheduled a CURBSIDE METAL PICK-UP on May 12, 2008. Residents can bring to the curb up to 5 metal items, free of charge. Please call Paines at 844-3003 by noon on May 9th to schedule your metal pick-up. Suggested items for pick up include: bicycles, lawnmowers (gas and oil drained), metal chairs, metal tables, metal shelves, exercise equipment, toaster ovens, pots and grills with the propane tanks removed. Propane tanks will not be collected.

Police Plan Special Olympics Fundraisers

The Wethersfield Police Department will be hosting a "Tip-A-Cop" fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics of Connecticut. On Friday, May 16, 2008 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Red Lobster Restaurant, personnel from WPD will be assisting "waiting" on tables for donations to Special Olympics CT. There will also be Special Olympics merchandise on sale during this event.

"Cabaret Night" at the Community Center

On May 16 the Wethersfield Committee on Culture and the Arts is sponsoring a "Cabaret Night" at the Community Center with Tony Allen singing the classics. The event begins at 7 p.m. Bring your own beverages and snacks.
