Bringing back Wethersfield's agricultural history, again this year there will be a weekly Farmers' Market every Thursday. The event has been coordinated by a small group of local residents and is sponsored by Wethersfield Historical Society. Farmers and vendors from Wethersfield as well as neighboring towns have been recruited to offer Wethersfield residents fresh locally grown produce, eggs, cheeses, jams, jellies, honey, organic crafts and more!
The Friends of the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center is sponsoring a summer children’s art contest to celebrate nature and young residents’ creativity. Entries must be nature-themed, created during the summer, and created by an artist under the age of 16. All entries will be displayed at the Nature Center September 14 - 30. Awards in age categories will be presented at the Friends of the Nature Center’s annual membership meeting Tuesday, September 21, at 7 p.m.
The Wethersfield Police Department was awarded a grant from the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation for additional patrols for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) enforcement for specific dates including dates in August and the Labor Day holiday weekend, 2010. These DUI patrols will begin on Thursday, August 19, 2010.
The Wethersfield Planning and Zoning Commission has continued a public hearing on proposed changes to the zoning regulations regarding the parking and storage of commercial vehicles. The hearing will be continued to Wednesday night September 8 at 7 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers at Town Hall, at which time the Commission will receive both written and oral testimony.
The 9th Annual Winton-Keane-Bittner Soccer Jamboree hosted by the Wethersfield High School Boys and Girls Soccer teams is scheduled for Saturday, September 11th at Wethersfield High School. This annual event stands as memorial to three Wethersfield residents who were killed tragically at the World Trade Center on 9-11-01: David Winton, Richard Keane and Jeffrey Bittner. David, Dick and Jeff were linked by a common soccer connection and this jamboree is meant as a celebration of sport and sportsmanship in their honor.
The Richard M. Keane Foundation is once again sponsoring a family picnic on Sunday, September 12th from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wethersfield's Broad Street Green. Come early and stay late! There is no rain date.
The United States Air Force Band "Afterburner," a rock and R&B band, will again play for us as we enjoy an old fashioned picnic on the historic Town Green.
The Wethersfield Police Department strives to provide the best service to the public. The department utilizes several methods in order to assess its performance in the field. The department has recently initiated an online customer survey. Chief James Cetran asks your consideration in completing this very brief survey if you had contact with an officer in the past twenty-four months.
The Central Connecticut Health District, serving the towns of Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield, is pleased to offer a diabetes self-care course to residents of the health district. Funded by a grant from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the course will run for six consecutive weeks. The course is free of charge.
The Central Connecticut Health District and the Wethersfield Health Care Center will continue to offer a glucose screening program to residents of Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, Newington, and Berlin who are 65 years of age and older.
