Stress Management for Job Seekers

In this Wethersfield Library program on Thursday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m., Susan Moores from United Way will offer suggestions about ways to remain positive while job hunting.

Nature Center Hosts Wilderness First Aid Class

The Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center will host a Wilderness First Aid class by SOLO on Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. An optional CPR class also will be offered Saturday, March 20, from 5 to 6 p.m.

"New England's OTHER Witch Hunt" Topic of Lecture

On March 22, State Historian and UConn Professor Walter Woodworth will present a multimedia exploration of "New England's OTHER Witch Hunt." A generation before Salem, New England was beset by another terrifying and deadly witch panic in Hartford and Wethersfield.

Health District Offers Free Cholesterol Screenings

The Central Connecticut Health District is offering free blood cholesterol screenings for residents of Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield. The screening program has been made possible through a grant from the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Nurses from the VNA Healthcare will conduct the screening on four days between the hours 8:30-10:30 a.m. as follows:

Business and Civic Association Selects Person of the Year

The Wethersfield Business and Civic Association (WBCA) has scheduled its 2010 Person of the Year Reception for Wednesday, March 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wethersfield Country Club. The cost for the event is $30.00 with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.

The WBCA has selected Ms. Judy Keane to be its 2010 Person of the Year in recognition of her service to the Town of Wethersfield through her efforts as President of the Richard M. Keane Foundation. A practicing nurse, Ms. Keane is a Wethersfield native who is the mother of five sons and five grandchildren.

Beer & Wine Tasting March 25

The Wethersfield Volunteer Firefighter’s Association will be holding their Fifth Annual Beer & Wine Tasting to benefit the Association's Scholarship Fund. The event will take place Thursday, March 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield Street.

Appetizers will be served, and raffle prizes available. Purchases of full or mixed cases of wine will receive a 5% discount, and 10% of all sales will go to the WVFA.

Tickets Available for Nature Center Benefit Dance

Advance tickets for the Friends of the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center's annual spring dance now are available for $25 per person. The dance will be held on Saturday, March 27 from 7 to 11:30 p.m. at the Pitkin Community Center.

Library, Town Provide "Employment Support Network"

This program of the Wethersfield Library is an opportunity to network and share job related skills with others. The group will be facilitated by Nancy Stilwell, Director of Wethersfield's Social and Youth Services Department.

Friends of the Nature Center Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Cornwall Scholarship Fund of the Friends of the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center is accepting applications for its 2010 program. Area residents graduating from any high school may apply if they plan to study natural, environmental or ecological sciences or related topics at a college or technical school. Preference is given to those who have volunteered at the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center.
