No Christmas Tree Pickups This Year

Due to budget constraints, the town will no longer have curbside pickup of Christmas trees. Residents can drop off Christmas trees at the Transfer Station Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., or at Mill Woods Park on Prospect Street by the Skate Park, or at the Willard Pool overload parking lot, 33 Greenfield Street, through January 30, 2009.

Library to Reoccupy Renovated Space; Will Be Closed in January

The Wethersfield Library will be closed Monday, January 5th through Sunday, February 1st. As the renovation nears completion, the Library will be closing to move lots and lots of books, equipment, furniture, phones, files and staff into the full three floors of the building.

While the Library is closed:

  • You may continue to return your items in the book drop
  • Wethersfield items checked out before we close will not be due until February
  • You will not be able to reserve or pick up any items

SeniorNet Plans Free Computer Workshops

SeniorNet of Wethersfield, a computer training program of the Wethersfield Senior Center, is offering several free computer workshops for individuals age 50 and over. The topics are "Tuning Your Computer" on January 12, 2009; "Cool Websites" March 11; "No-Cost Options to MS Word" on April 15; "Power of Google" on May 5; and "Comparison of Word 2003 with Word 2007" on June 8.

Mixed Use Zoning Regulations Approved

On Tuesday December 2, 2008 the Wethersfield Planning and Zoning Commission approved a request to amend the zoning regulations to establish standards for mixed use developments. These amendments are another step in the Town's effort to revitalize it's primary commercial corridor - the Silas Deane Highway. Specifically, the amendments are designed to implement the recommendations contained within the 2006 Master Plan for the Silas Deane Highway to promote the revitalization and redevelopment of the Town's aging commercial corridor.

Wethersfield 2008 Salute to Business Recognition Awards

Wethersfield is proud of the companies that make up its business community. Each year, the Town's Economic Development and Improvement Commission (EDIC), Village Improvement Association with the sponsorship of the Wethersfield Chamber of Commerce, recognize local business contributions at the Annual Salute to Business event through a series of Business Recognition Awards. This year's 19th annual ceremony was held on Wednesday December 3rd at the Wethersfield Country Club.

Revaluation Notices Mailed

Revaluation notices have been mailed for the 2008-2009 town-wide revaluation to residents and business owners starting on Monday, December 1, 2008. If you have not received a notice by December 8, please call Vision Appraisal at 1-888-844-4300.

Parks & Rec Winter Program Registration Underway

Registration for the Parks & Recreation Department's Winter 2009 programs begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, for residents (non-resident registration begins on December 23). Included are early childhood, nature, fitness, swimming, and other recreational programs for youth and adults. Look for "Online Registration Information" or "Winter & Spring 2009 Brochure" on the Department's web page.

Leaf Collection Program Complete

The leaf collection program is now complete, with all areas having received two pickups.

Foodshare Thanks Wethersfield; "Turkey and a Twenty" Drive a Big Success

On behalf of the many families that will enjoy a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving, Foodshare conveys a big "thank you" to the many folks who stopped by the Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance facility recently to donate a "Turkey and a Twenty." This first year's effort resulted in a remarkable 187 turkeys, 295 pounds of non-perishable foods and $2,070 being collected.

Life Saving AED Donated

The Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Wethersfield Volunteer Firefighters Association have donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for use at the 9/11 Memorial Sports Center at the Pitkin Community Center. Membership of the Association and the WVFD staff agreed that there was a need for the life-saving device when the Fitness Room and Gymnasium opened in September. The membership of both organizations unanimously decided to pool their resources to purchase the equipment.
