Hybrid Vehicle Ordinance Adopted

The Wethersfield Town Council, at their September 15, 2008 meeting, approved a new tax exemption program that begins with the October 1, 2008 Grand List.

On and after January 1, 2008 and prior to July 1, 2010, the purchase of any passenger motor vehicle with an EPA estimated Rating of 40 mpg either city or highway would qualify for a tax exemption. The vehicles that may qualify are: Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight and Toyota Prius.

Ordinance Revised on Sidewalk, Road Obstructions

The Wethersfield Town Council recently approved a change to Ordinance 139-1, Removal of obstructions that allows the Town to impose a fine of $50 a day to any property owner who fails to remove an obstruction on a sidewalk or public highway. The property owner will have 48 hours to remove the obstruction after notice from the Police Department, or be subject to this fine.

Council Votes to Accept State Grant for Façade Program

At their July 21 meeting the Town Council voted to accept a $200,000 Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant from the State Department of Economic and Community Development to be used to provide additional funds for the Town's façade improvement program. Funds will be used to provide loans to commercial improvement projects located outside of the Silas Deane Highway business corridor primarily in Old Wethersfield and the Berlin Turnpike. Ground Broken for Little League Field

The Wethersfield Advisory Parks and Recreation Board announces that a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Little League Field in Mill Woods Park took place on Tuesday, July 8, at 5:00 p.m. in Mill Woods Park.

The Elections Department has released unofficial results of the Nov. 4, 2008 election.

Mosquitoes Testing Positive for West Nile Virus Found in Wethersfield

The Central Connecticut Health District received notification from the Connecticut Department of Public Health that mosquitoes recently trapped in Wethersfield tested positive for West Nile Virus. For the past several years, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station has been trapping and collecting mosquitoes for testing from approximately 90 trap sites around the state. Two of those sites are within the Central CT Health District, one in Newington and the other in Wethersfield.

Montinieri Named MS Corporate Achiever

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter has named Deputy Mayor Paul Montinieri a 2008 MS Corporate Achiever - one of only 12 leaders within the Hartford region to be so named.

Forum Held on Redevelopment

On June 11, 2008 the Wethersfield Redevelopment Agency held the first of two special meetings and public forums to discuss economic development and the role of the town's Redevelopment Agency. A PowerPoint presentation given at that meeting is available below:

Wethersfield Receives Clean Energy Award

Wethersfield is one of nineteen municipalities to receive a 2008 Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Award from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.

Draft of Master Plan Available

A draft "Old Wethersfield Master Plan" document, dated April, 2008, has been received and is available for download on the Preserve America Steering Committee page. Town staff and the Steering Committee welcome comments on the draft plan, which may be submitted through a form on that page.
