Engineering Department

The Engineering Department provides engineering and surveying expertise in all matters relating to municipal engineering for the Town of Wethersfield. The Department is responsible for preparing and administering the capital budget; design and management of municipal construction projects; administration of annual sidewalk maintenance, pavement marking, crack sealing and road paving programs; reviewing proposed development plans for local boards and commissions and providing technical assistance to various committees; contractor licensing and permitting for improvements within the public right-of-way; administering the survey, mapping and technical requirements of a town-wide Geographic Information System; and in general, assuring that the interests of the Town residents are met in all engineering and surveying matters.

Contractor License and General Excavation Permit applications may now be scanned and emailed to EngineeringApplications@wethersfieldct.gov.  Check payments and surety bond forms must be mailed or delivered to the Engineering Department Office for applications to be processed. 

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS

Be advised of the following new requirements for obtaining licenses and permits from the Engineering Department to work within the Town right-of-way:

Effective IMMEDIATELY
To obtain an annual license, contractors must provide a surety
bond in the amount of not less than $10,000, which must be
maintained for a period of not less than two (2) years after
completion of work (reduced from 5 years).

Effective APRIL 1, 2024
To obtain a General Excavation Permit, contractors must provide
a check or cash in the amount of $60 for each permit issued
(increased from $40).
