D.A.R.E. Program
In commitment to the future of our youth, the Wethersfield Police Department and Wethersfield Board of Education are dedicated to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program (D.A.R.E.). The D.A.R.E. program is a combined effort between the police department, educators, and families to assist students in not only keeping children drug and violence free, but to help today's youth recognize the consequences of their actions and help them make wise decisions.
In Wethersfield, the D.A.R.E. program is taught at the kindergarten, second, fourth, fifth, and seventh grades. From the K-7 levels, the program reviews and expands upon previously learned material. The focus of the kindergarten program is to teach children about personal safety, primarily "stranger danger." By the time the program reaches the seventh grade, the topics of personal safety, responsibility for one's actions, drug abuse, drug resistance techniques, self-esteem, decision making skills, anger management, conflict resolution, avoiding prejudice, and risk behaviors are discussed.
Currently, Officer Robert Arduini teaches D.A.R.E. at the elementary schools.
