6/15/2015 - ZONING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/PROPERTY MAINTENANCE OFFICER

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the general supervision of the Town Manager performs inspections, investigative and administrative work in enforcement and administration of local zoning and property maintenance regulations and Town ordinances.  Issues certificates of zoning compliance in accordance with zoning regulations.

Investigates violations and complaints regarding zoning, Town ordinances, and property maintenance and administers the application of the Town's zoning regulations to insure that existing and proposed residential, commercial and other developments comply with the regulations of the Town and with related state statutes.  

Staff liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals.  Acts as the designated agent of the Planning and Zoning Commission in all enforcement actions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Access database software. Thorough knowledge of Planning and Zoning principles and practices, enforcement procedures, and land-use statutes. Operation of a personal computer for database management, computer software programs and standard office equipment including a camera and camcorder. Ability to read and interpret appropriate site plans, surveys and construction drawings and documents. Ability to analyze, interpret and administer the provisions of the zoning regulations, land use regulations and statutes. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Engineering or a related field of study; and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a similar or related position or field, or a combination of education, training, and experience.

Certification by the Connecticut Association of Zoning Enforcement Official (CAZEO) or as a condition of employment must be certified within one (1) year of appointment, or, at the earliest date based on scheduling of the certification program.
