7/29/2015 - Part-Time Sidewalk Inspector/Engineering Technician I

Reports to: Town Engineer                               Status: Part-time

Salary: $20.00/hour Schedule: up to 19.5 hours/week

Closing Date: Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Summary: Under the general supervision of the Town Engineer or the Engineering Operations Coordinator, performs engineering/inspection/ survey work as construction inspector, survey Rod-person; performs drafting work for mapping and public works construction projects; and does routine inspection work.

Examples of Duties:   Inspects sidewalks, street-traffic lines, street excavation restorations, Investigates complaints from town residents. Enforces sidewalk ordinances.   Provides technical information and assistance to members of public.  Assists contractors, architects, or others in applying for construction or street-opening permits.  Acts as Rod-person on engineering survey crew.  May perform duties of Instrument-person.  Carries equipment, clears brush, and performs manual labor in preparing survey sites.  From surveyor’s notes, prior field notes, and related information, drafts maps, plot plans, and makes corrections to maps.  Performs administrative and fieldwork as directed by supervisor. 

Qualifications:  High school education including or supplemented with mathematics and/or engineering drafting.  Familiarity with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and email programs required.    Prior experience in a municipal engineering office and/or completion of technical training in construction inspection and/or land surveying preferred.  Valid Driver’s License.
