Office of Tax Collector
Clerk III
Under the supervision of the Tax Collector and or the supervision of the Technical Assistant to the Tax Collector, the Clerk III position shall provide varied technical and clerical assistance to the office of Tax Collector relative to the billing, collection and crediting of taxes as well as for related billings and charges as they pertain to personal property, real estate and or motor vehicles.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
As they relate to that described in the position description, the Clerk III should be able to competently perform the following duties as well as related functions not specifically defined:
- Bank coding of specific banks or mortgage companies on tax bills per written bill authorization requests for escrowed accounts
- Changes of address as notified by post office, DMV and individual correspondence
- Counter / walk-in tax payments received and processed in financial collection system
- Mail tax payment processing and data entry
- Reconcile tax batches
- Prepare deposits and reconciliation
- Departmental revenue collected and processed
- Billing and processing of adjusted tax bills upon certificate of corrections entered by Assessor
- Provide information and documentation to attorneys, title searchers, banking personnel and public
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of standard office / clerical procedures
- Reasonable (and or ability to ascertain) working knowledge of state and local policies, laws, rules, regulations, and technical requirements governing assessment and or tax collection
- Knowledge of and skill in the application of accounting-clerical principles and procedures
- Ability to type and perform basic data entry processes

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- Ability to get from one location in the office or work site(s) to other locations in and outside from the primary office work site(s). Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
- Mobility to make recreational area and park inspections which may include climbing and traveling over rough terrain. Ability to reach and bend, and push/pull or lift objects less than thirty pounds.
- Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing, using a keyboard and/or calculator with accuracy.
- Ability to see and read objects closely as in reading narrative or financial reports. Ability to read plans, maps and diagrams and read from a computer monitor. Ability to see objects far away as in driving.
- Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise as in hearing using a telephone. Ability to distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain files, records, spread sheets and database and make mathematical calculations using a calculator.
- Ability to concentrate on complicated detail and complex issues with some interruption, pressure and changing priorities.

- Works in typical office setting subject to interruptions, heavy traffic flow and heavy work volume expectations and performs outside work which may include exposure to fluctuations in temperature and seasonal weather including wetness and humidity. May be exposed to dust and electro-magnetic radiation as in CRTs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The skills and experience required would generally be acquired with a high school education with course work in Business English and Commercial Arithmetic, and three years experience of increasingly responsible office clerical experience.
DESIRABLE BACKGROUND:
Prior clerical experience of a responsible nature in a government office, service business, or related field.
