The Town of Wethersfield Clean Energy Committee has announced that the Pitkin Community Center will be the site where the solar photovoltaic system received from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund will be installed. The town received it as a result of Wethersfield households and businesses participating in the CT Clean Energy Communities Program.
The CT Clean Energy Communities Program provides member municipalities with a free one-kilowatt hour solar photovoltaic system for every 100 households or businesses that choose to obtain their electricity from a clean energy provider through the CT Clean Energy Options Program. Participants in the CT Clean Energy Options Program may choose to either obtain 50% or 100% of their electricity from clean energy sources that include wind, solar, and hydro-electric power.
"Signing up for one of the clean energy options is the key," explained Christopher Shepard, the Wethersfield Clean Energy Committee's staff liaison and Director of the Town's Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center. "The solar photovoltaic system is worth roughly $10,000 and will provide low-cost electricity for Wethersfield for years to come. You can't beat that."
In addition to participating in the CT Clean Energy Options Program, Wethersfield residents and social organizations interested in promoting clean energy may petition the Wethersfield Clean Energy Committee for a grant to organize their own method of raising awareness for the CT Clean Energy Options Program.
The CT Clean Energy Options Program is approved by the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control and calls for CL&P to partner with Community Energy, Inc. and Sterling Planet to enable CL&P customers to purchase electricity produced from solar, wind, hydro and recaptured methane from landfills.
