The Wethersfield Advisory Parks and Recreation Board announces that a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Little League Field in Mill Woods Park took place on Tuesday, July 8, at 5:00 p.m. in Mill Woods Park.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, CL&P and Northeast Utilities presented the Town of Wethersfield with a donation to the Mill Woods Master Plan Fund of $10,000. The check was presented by Mr. Ray Necci, president of CL&P. Also, the Lions Club of Wethersfield announced a donation of $5,000 for the scoreboard at the new Little League field.
This project is being funded through a grant from the State of Connecticut with additional funding from the Town and private donations. Construction will include a new regulation Little League Field with dugouts, irrigation and drainage. Also, a water line and an electrical line will be installed to the site of a future Soccer Field. This Soccer Field is located at the south end of the park near the Dog Park.
The Little Leagye Field project is part of the Mill Woods Park Master Plan. Other projects completed from the Master Plan include the renovation of the Moeller Home to the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center, a Skatepark, Dog Park, Walking Trails, Bike Trail and UNICO Bocce Courts. Fundraising is ongoing to continue the implementation of the Master Plan. Individuals or organizations interested in donating towards these improvements can contact the Wethersfield Parks and Recreation Department at 721-2890. Other facilities in the Master Plan include Soccer Fields, renovation of existing Little League fields and Softball fields, Beach Improvements, Parking Areas and Access Roads, Playscape, Picnic Area & Pavilion, Restroom Facilities, Concession Stand, dredging of the Upper Pond and a new Entrance Road into the Park.
