The Hospitality Corporation - Best Western - 1330 Silas Deane Highway

Construction is well underway for the Best Western - Camelot Inn on a one-story addition on the south side of the building to accommodate an indoor pool and jacuzzi.

505 Silas Deane Highway - Town Hall and Library Renovation

Construction has commenced on the renovations and handicapped accessibility improvements to the Town Hall/Library Building. On June 21 the PZC approved the new façade plan.

Cedar Hill Cemetery - Berlin Turnpike

The plans were approved at the PZC meeting of June 7 for the construction of an additional mausoleum in the Cemetery. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 3 and construction is underway.

Double A Veterinary Clinic - 106 Nott Street

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a small addition on the east side of this building and construction should be completed soon.

23 Kelleher Court - Nextel

The PZC has approved a site plan to permit an additional provider at this site.

225 Spring Street - State of Connecticut Judicial Branch

A building permit has been issued to renovate over 30,000 square feet of this building for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch for office space.

632 Silas Deane Highway - International Institute of Cosmetology

A façade improvement plan has been approved to renovate the exterior face of this building.

Proposed Dunkin Donuts 416 Silas Deane Highway

Plans have been approved for the construction of a new Dunkin Donuts restaurant at the site of Suny's restaurant. The plans include a 1,800 s.f. building with a drive thru window

Proposed Tim Horton's Restaurant 486 Silas Deane Highway

Plans have approved for the construction of a 1700 sf restaurant with drive thru at the site of the Carnival Ice Cream shop at the corner of Church Street.

1380-1420 Berlin Turnpike - Façade Review

A new exterior storefront plan has been approved for this shopping center. This new tenant space will be located in the last remaining vacant space in the center next to the new Eblen's store. The tenant has not yet been identified.

Phoenix Medical LLC, 1260 Silas Deane Highway

Permitting is underway for a small addition to this building to accommodate a chemotherapy infusion center.

Old Reservoir Road/Back Lane - Harris Property - Age Restricted Housing

A zone change application has been approved for this property which would permit the development of this site for age restricted housing. The preliminary plans indicate the construction of 39 single family housing units under our new special residential development regulations. There was much neighborhood opposition at the hearing.

Preliminary discussions have been held with a contractor interested in renovating this building for multifamily use.

Silas Deane Highway Revitalization Committee

• The preliminary report was submitted by Fuss and O'Neill on November 14 which is presently being reviewed by the Silas Deane Highway Advisory Committee.

Economic Development and Improvement Commission

• The Annual Salute To Business event will be held on December 14 at 5:30 pm at the Wethersfield Country Club.
• On October 25 the Commission held its 4th in a series of breakfast meeting with representatives from the real estate community.
• Additional STEAP application for $400,000 for a façade improvement program and $500,000 for the Silas Deane Highway Improvement Plan were filed with the State in late November.

Tourism

• A meeting with stakeholders was held on October 11 at 5:30 pm at the Chamber of Commerce office to discuss the idea of developing a townwide wayfinding signage program.
• On November 17 attended the First Governor's Conference on Culture and Tourism.
• Placed a full page ad in the new Greater Hartford Guest Guide. This guide will be placed in a majority of the hotel rooms in the regions providing visitors with ideas of things to see and do in the region.
• On March 11, 2006 the Commission will attend a trade show at the Convention Center to promote the Town as a place to visit and work.

Planning and Zoning Commission

• Staff have prepared a draft of a proposed zoning regulation amendment that would cover the regulation of outdoor lighting including athletic field lighting for consideration by the Commission. An initial public hearing was held on November 15 and the hearing was kept open until the December meetings.

• Plans were submitted as a referral from the Newington PZC for the development of the former Hartford Drive-In property on prospect Street for 74 Town House units. The Wethersfield PZC reviewed the plans at their October 4 meeting.

Old Wethersfield Shop Keepers Association

• Participated in a meeting with the merchants organization and their interest in having the zoning regulations modified to permit temporary signs and banners in this commercial district. Provided copies of regulations from other communities and discuss further with the Planning and Zoning Commission.
