Wethersfield Emergency Management Services is charged with the responsibility of the management of any emergency situation, which befalls the town. This town office is directed by the Town Manager in their capacity as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Public Safety, based on the authority given by State Statute and the direction of the newly enacted National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Emergency Management Services is managed by the Town's Director of Emergency Management and is comprised of key town senior management members who make up the Emergency Management Team. They will be called upon to manage the overall situation through use of the Incident Command System (ICS) in case of emergency or by an act of nature or any other hazard as the Town Manager directs, as needed.
In addition to the Emergency Management Director and Deputy Emergency Management Director, the team is made up of representatives of the Fire, Police, Ambulance, Social Services, Recreation, Public Health, School System, Public Works, Town Clerk's Office, Finance, Fire Marshal and Engineering departments.
Emergency Management Services members will be expected to function at the town's Emergency Operations Center during time of emergency and, under a unified command process, direct the mitigation of the emergency; provide timely communications to the populace affected and assist in summoning additional regional, State and Federal resources if needed. The operation of a system of shelters, which will provide safety for citizens during time of need, is also the responsibility of this department.
