Billing and Payment Information

This division's primary purpose is the timely billing and collection of taxes on all legally assessed taxable property in town. It performs its functions in accordance with budgetary and statutory guidelines and is subject to the supervision of and falls within the jurisdiction of the Director of Finance.

Motor Vehicle Tax

Motor Vehicle taxes must be paid on or before August 1st to avoid interest charge. All taxes paid after August 1st will be subject to an interest charge of 1.5% per month FROM THE DUE DATE or 3% if paid in August. The minimum interest charge is $2.

NOTE: Any questions concerning motor vehicles that are sold, stolen or destroyed should be directed to the Assessor's office at (860) 721-2810.

Real Estate Tax

Real estate taxes are due on July 1st and January 1st. Interest at the rate of 1.5% per month from the due date is charged if not paid within one month from the due date. The minimum interest charge is $2.

NOTE: Only one bill is sent out prior to the payment due date of July 1st. Bills are not sent for the January payment.

Payment Information

When paying your motor vehicle or real estate tax, please follow these guidelines:

  1. If a receipt is required, bring or mail all copies of the bill with your payment. For mail return receipts, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the entire bill.
  2. Duplicate tax bills are 50 cents per copy.
  3. If the phrase "BACK TAXES DUE" appears on your bill, please call (860) 721-2825 before you pay in order to obtain the correct amount due.
  4. Make checks payable to: Collector, Town of Wethersfield.
  5. Mail payments to: Tax Collector, Town of Wethersfield, 505 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT 06109. To avoid waiting in long lines, please pay by mail.
  6. Town Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Delinquent Bills

Please note that delinquent bills are turned over to a legal Collection Authority, i.e., Constable, Marshal or collection agency, for further collection. This will result in a fee of $25 per bill at a minimum being charged by the Collection Authority in addition to any interest or lien fees that have already been added to your bill.
